Here are some common questions that visitors have when planning their trip to Yaxha. If you have any additional questions, contact us.
- Can you fish in the lagoons? It is not allowed to fish in any of the lagoons given that the preservation of the species that inhabit them is essential to keeping a balanced ecosystem.
- Can you swim in the lagoons? It is forbidden to swim in the lagoons, as the crocodile population is quite large.
- Can I buy water or food in the sites? At the moment, there are no sales of food or water within the sites, so please bring your own.
- How long do I need to visit Yaxha? Between three and four hours.
- How long do I need to visit Topoxte? It’s a half an hour boat ride from Yaxha to Topoxte and half an hour to return. We recommend staying at least an hour to visit the site.
- What kind of clothes and shoes do I need to bring? Light clothes that protect you from mosquito bites (long sleeves) and comfortable shoes. We also recommend bringing insect repellent, sunscreen and a raincoat.
- Do you rent camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags, flashlights)? There are camping facilities that consist of five two-story rustic structures with room for ten people each. Soon you’ll be able to rent equipment.
- Do I need a special permit to visit Nakum and Naranjo? No, you just need to hire a guide from the Community Tourism Guides Association of Yaxha, which you can contact at the Visitors Center.
- How many days do I need to visit Nakum? One day if you travel by car and two days if you're walking, riding or cycling.
- How many days do I need to visit Naranjo? One day if you travel by car and two days if you're walking, riding or cycling.
- Are there emergency services within the area? There’s an infirmary that provides basic first aid care but if you require special medication, you should bring it with you.
- Is the park safe? Yaxha-Nakum-Naranjo National Park is known for its peaceful and tranquil environment. We encourage you to stay on the trails and other tourist designated areas.
